Religious places
Vadakkunathan Temple
This temple comprises the heart of the city. Located on a hillock, it enshrines the seat of Lord Vadakkunathan, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Though there are idols of several other deities in the temple, it is the one of Vadakkunathan that is placed in the centre of the main shrine.
The city of Thrissur owes much of its fame to this temple. This is because; this is the venue for the famous Thrissur Pooram festival. This temple also promotes several temple arts, murals, paintings and cultural performances. The structure of the building is also a direct reflection of the traditional Kerela style of architecture.
Shankara Samadhi
Another highly revered place for the Hindu pilgrims is the Samadhi of the ancient Advaita philosopher Adi Shankaracharya. This place is associated with a number of legendary stories, one of which suggests that Shankaracharya had attained mukti in this shrine of Thrissur at the age of 32 in 820 B.C. The shrine of this famous philosopher and teacher is adorned with beautiful flowers and decorated to the fullest, thus creating a deep spiritual feeling in the minds of the religiously inclined. The place also houses a small temple in the middle of the spacious garden. This temple displays an extremely lively picture of Adi Shankaracharya.
Arattupuzha temple
The Arattupuzha temple is the seat of the most auspicious god of Southern India, Ayappa. Annual Arattupuzha Pooram Festival is held in temple with great pomp and vigor. It is the oldest Pooram festival all over Kerela. The occasion of Pooram is of such importance in Kerela because it is believed that on this sacred day, the deities of the nearby locations come to visit Lord Ayappa. The procession during Pooram festival involves as many as 61 elephants including Pandimelam, Panchavadyam, and Nadaswaram. The idols of the deities in and around are carried over the elephants. Arattupuzha temple is open 5 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 7.30 pm everyday
Thiruvambady Krishna Temple
One of the most visited and also the oldest Vishnu Temple in Kerela, the Thiruvambady Krishna Temple enshrines a beautiful Krishna idol. A mention of this temple is even there in many folk arts as well as in historical facts and figures. This temple too has an important role to play in the Thrissur Pooram. This is because on this holy occasion, normally two processions commence from two temples and they stand face to face in the Thrissur town, one among these two temples is the Thiruvambady Krishna Temple.
Tomb of Shakthan Thampuran
Shakthan Thampuran was an erstwhile ruler who had haile from Kochi. It is a major tourist attraction, primarily for those whose interests revolve round history and historical facts.
The tomb of Shakthan Thampuran is one of the three tombs located inside the Shakthan Tamouran Palace constructed by Ramavarma Thampuaran in 1795. This tomb is at the spot where the mortal remain of King was laid to rest. The architectures are a specimen of the Dutch and Kerala style of architecture.

Athirapally Falls
Located about 63 km from Thrissur, this falls boasts of a 80 ft long water raft, which is also a haven of rich flora and fauna. The source of this waterfall is the Chalakudy River.

Vazhachal Falls
The best time to come to Vazhachal falls is during the months from June to October, when the monsoon is in its full swing. To reach here one can either hire a private taxi or avail a bus from the Chalakudy bus station.

Heritage garden is a good place to visit for exploring the rare species of flora grown in mountain ranges of Kerala. The plants and trees preserved here include many varieties which come under the protected list. The natural setting of the heritage garden brings the values of Ayurveda and Siddha Schools of medicines. Many Ayurvedic plants which are very rare are growing here with special attention and care.
