By Air: Gaggal Airport, also known by several names viz. ‘Kangra Airport’, ‘Dharamsala Airport’ and ‘Rajo Airport’ and located at Gaggal approximately 19 kilometers from Mcleodganj along MDR44 and NH20 is the closest airbase from here. The chief airlines operational at the Gaggal Airport are Jagson Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines that provide air connectivity from Gaggal to Delhi, Chandigarh and Kullu. Indira Gandhi International Airport of New Delhi, located at the distance of about 497 kilometers from Mcleodganj is the nearest international airport that grants an extremely good connectivity with almost all the principal domestic and international destinations. To reach Gaggal Airport from Mcleodganj and vice versa tourists can hire a cab or auto rickshaws.

By Rail: The nearest railway station from Mcleodganj on the narrow gauge railway line is positioned at Kangra and Nagrota situated approximately 20 kilometers away from Dharamsala. Kangra and Nagrota Railway Stations are particularly famous for their picturesque rail route running between Shimla and Kangra. The nearest broad gauge railway station from Mcleodganj is located at Pathankot nearly 85 kilometers away from here. Pathankot is a major railroad junction and the rail lines from Amritsar and Delhi merge here while all the trains to Jammu pass through this station. Pathankot Railway Station is widely renowned for its Kangra Valley Railway or Kangra Toy Train established during the British Era. Apart from Delhi, Amritsar and Jammu, Pathankot Railway Station is also connected with some of the major destinations of the country including Ahmedabad, Bikaner, Bhatinda, Ferozpur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Panipat, Hatia, Tatanagar Jn, Udhampur, Allahabad, Kanpur, Ranchi etc.

By Road: Mcleodganj is very well connected with all the major cities of Himachal Pradesh and also with the National capital Delhi through a well established road network. Deluxe, semi-deluxe, luxury and ordinary buses; both private and state transport regularly ply on the route connecting Mcleodganj to all the neighboring cities including Manali, Mandi, Kangra, Pathankot, Delhi and many more. A bus ticket from Mcleodganj to Delhi costs about 1000 INR per seat. Most of the tourists prefer to travel by road to reach Mcleodganj because although slow, a voyage through the narrow zigzag roads of the verdant Kangra hills is an absolutely enjoyable and memorable experience. Even though the main bus terminal is in Lower Dharamsala, several public HRTC buses to Pathankot and Delhi do go all the way up to the Mcleodganj. A general HRTC bus ticket from Mcleodganj to Pathankot costs about 75 Rs and it takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach Pathankot. Private buses are available from Mcleodganj to Manali, Dehradun and Delhi. Overnight buses also operate between Mcleodganj and Delhi that start from the Tibetan colony of Majnu ka Tilla. A road trip between Mcleodganj and Delhi roughly takes about 13 hours.
