How To Reach Mangalore

By Air: Mangalore International Airport, earlier known as Bajpe Airport is situated approximately 20 kilometers form the heart of the city. Inaugurated in 1951 and upgraded as an international airport in 2006, this airport provides both domestic and international connectivity. This airport happens to be the second airport of the state of Karnataka from where international flights are operated. The airlines functional at this airport include Air India, Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Kingfisher Airlines, Air India Express and Saudi Arabian Airlines. The destinations, both national and foreign accessible from Mangalore Airport are: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa, Chennai, Kozhikode, Kochi, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bahrain, Kuwait, Sharjah, Muscat, Mecca and Medina.
By Rail: Mangalore has two major railway stations; Mangalore Central (MAQ) which is located at Hampankatta in the heart of the city and Mangalore Junction (MAJN) situated at Kankanadi about 5 kilometers from the city. Furnishing as a chief rail junction of Indian South Railway, Mangalore is well connected with all the important destinations in India. All the trains that terminate at Mangalore use ‘Mangalore Central’ and those not terminating here and most long route trains use Mangalore Junction. Another railhead placed at Surathkal (SKL) about 18 km from the main market of Mangalore is availed by almost all the long distance trains that march between North and South India. The trains that can be boarded from Mangalore are: Rajdhani Express, Matsyagandha Express, Garib Rath Express, Yesvantpur-Kannur Express, Yesvantpur-Mangalore Express, Madgaon Express, Mao Madras Special, Eranakulam Express, Chennai-Mangalore Mail, West Coach Express, Maveli Express etc. These trains would reach us to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Baroda, etc.
By Road: Mangalore has in total three bus stands. One is positioned in northern Mangalore in Bejai. Buses operated by KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) ply from this bus station to various destinations in and around Karnataka like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Goa, Udupi, Manipal, Hubli-Dharwad, Kundapur, Karwar and many others. Buses run by Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh state transport corporation also operate from here.
Another bus stand popularly known as ‘State Bank Bus stand’ is located behind the Town Hall of Mangalore. Most of the inter district private buses are terminated at this bus stop. The third, unofficial bus stand, used as alighting point by private tours and traveling company buses is located in front of Milagres Church near Hampankatta. A number of deluxe, semi – deluxe, Volvo, and sleeper buses ply from here to destinations such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Goa, Hubli-Dharwad, Thrissur etc. National Highways numbered 13, 17 and 48 connect Mangalore to various cities like Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Sakleshpur, Mysore, Madikeri, Suliya and different destinations in Kerala .
