How To Reach Madurai

By Air: The domestic airport at Madurai is about 15 kilometers from the heart of the city off the National Highway no. 47. This airport has a very good connectivity with the major cities of India like Bangalore, Chennai, Tirchy, Thiruvananthapuram and Coimbatore. The airlines that provide their services at this airbase include, Indian Airlines, Kingfisher Red, Jet Airways, Paramount Airways and Spicejet. You can rent a cab from the airport to reach the city. The nearest international airport from Madurai is Tiruchirappalli International Airport which is located at Trichy. Madurai Airport is under process of converting it into an international airport.
By Rail: Madurai falls on the Madurai-Tiruchirappalli-Dindigul-Quilon line and Madurai Railway Station is well positioned right in the heart of the city. Being a chief railway junction on Southern Railway Route, Madurai is directly connected by rail with important cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Howrah, Bangalore, Chennai, Tirunelveli, Rameswaram, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, etc. A train travel between Chennai and Madurai takes about 7 to 8 hours through the super fast day train, ‘The Vaigai Express’.

By Road: National Highways numbered 7, 49 and 45B pass through Madurai. As a part of National highway development program, these highways are under up gradation and they are going to be converted into multi lined highways. Tamil Nadu state transport buses provide a good connectivity from Madurai to all the major cities in and around the state. The cities of neighboring states like Trivandram, Ernakulam, Bangalore, Mysore, etc. are also easily accessible via road from Madurai. Numbers of ordinary as well as luxury, both deluxe and super deluxe buses cater services here. Most of the buses that run overnight and inter-state terminate at Mattuthavani Bus stand, one of the five major bus stands in Madurai. Private buses can be boarded near the Periyar bus stand.
