Jaipur is the first planned city of the country. Located about 260km to the South-West of Delhi, Jaipur is a melting pot of forts, palaces, sand, colour and mirth. It was founded by Sawai Jai Singh in 1727A.D, and bears the evidence of being the first planned city of the country.

Despite having come of age after three centuries since its inception, Jaipur still scintillates with a natural luster. The age old bazaars, forts and palaces have stood the test of time. They still emit an elegant hue and remind one of the valor, bravery and might that this city was the symbol of. Most of them have been converted into heritage hotels, thereby giving the tourists an opportunity to re-live the grandeur and majesty that was the exclusive right of the royals only.

Said to have been planned by a Bengali Brahman Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, the city of Jaipur reflects the principles of Vastu Shastra, or the principles of architecture in the Indian Scriptures. It is roughly rectangular in shape and divided into nine blocks with seven gates and elaborates fortification walls.
