How To Reach Darjeeling

By Air: ‘Bagdogra Airport’ situated near Siliguri approximately 96 kilometers from Darjeeling is the nearest airbase from this ‘Queen of Hill Stations’. By Rail: New Jalpaiguri Railway Station of Siliguri located approximately 80 kilometers from Darjeeling is the nearest railway head from here. New Jalpaiguri is quite a busy Railway Station and more than hundred trains pass from here. To reach Darjeeling from New Jalpaiguri the world renowned ‘Darjeeling Himalayan Railway’, popularly known as the ‘Toy Train’ can be used. The zig zag route of this Toy Train passes through the extremely picturesque hilly regions of Darjeeling overloaded with spectacular natural beauty. The memorable ride of this Toy Train is at the top of the priority list of every visitor of Darjeeling. Apart from the Toy Train, the steam ‘Joy’ train operates from Darjeeling to Ghoom round the well-known Batasia Loop and yet another steam train plying from Siliguri to ‘Agony Point’ passes through Darjeeling. A daily ‘School Train’ also functions between Kurseong and Darjeeling.
By Road: Darjeeling is very well connected with Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri via the cherubic road winding through the theatrical woods of the Lesser Himalayas laden with immense comeliness and unequalled charm of nature. The Hill Cart Road, National Highway no 55, Pankhabari Road, National Highway no 31 and Burdwan Road connect Darjeeling with Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri. Buses, shared jeeps and cabs regularly ply between Darjeeling and these destinations. Shared jeeps are cheaper, faster and plausibly comfortable mode of transport to Darjeeling and they cost about 150 to 200 INR per seat. The journey to Darjeeling from Siliguri via road takes about three hours and the taxis generally stop near Kurseong for tea and toilet break. Buses to Darjeeling are also available from Kurseong, Kalimpong and Gangtok. Darjeeling is positioned about 35 km from Kurseong, 50 km from Kalimpong and Mirik, 80 km from Siliguri, 98 km from Gangtok, 670 km from Calcutta, 1590 km from New Delhi and 2379 km from Mumbai.
